Durham Book Club

Welcome to Durham Book Club!

a program for all of Durham's middle school students

Durham Book Club (DBC) is a student-led group that unites Durham's middle school youth through the power of reading.  An initiative created by Durham non-profit StrongHER TogetHER at the onset of the pandemic, DBC welcomes all students and is supported by grants, donations, and community sponsorships that make it possible to  provide books and materials to participants.

From April through July, we meet once a month to hear from authors, play book-related games, and make new friends. Whether we are designing DBC shirts or sleuthing our way through a city-wide scavenger hunt, we have tons of reading fun!

We have met with authors who are New York Times Best Sellers, Newbery Medal winners, Caldecott winners, Coretta Scott King Award winners, as well as authors whose work has inspired TV shows, movies and

StrongHER TogetHER is excited to host DBC alongside Durham librarians, local booksellers, and middle school librarians and English/Language Arts staff from throughout the community.

2023 Kickoff and Author Event

Join us for the exciting launch of Durham Book Club 2023!

This DBC student-led event is the perfect opportunity to make new friends, engage in thought-provoking conversations, and discover new worlds through the pages of great books.

First, we'll kick off the event with icebreakers and activities to get to know each other. At 1pm, we'll have the incredible opportunity to meet Scott Reintgen, author of Nyxia, the first book we'll be reading together. We'll have the chance to ask questions, engage in lively discussion, and gain a deeper appreciation for the author's craft.

We'll provide light snacks and refreshments throughout the event to keep us energized and engaged. So come hungry and ready to discover new books and make new friends.

Register by March 31!
